Walgreens Ad 8/24: Best Sales & Deals

Here are my picks for the best deals in the Walgreens ad for August 24 - 30, 2014, including some great basics for your Labor Day party planning.

Also, if you're new to shopping at Walgreens, check out my how-to guide to get yourself up to speed.  Walgreens is slightly quirky with their policies, so you'll want to be fully prepped before you hit the store.

Best deals in the 8/24 Walgreens ad
  • Vitamin Water Energy Drink -- on sale for $1.50, with $1.50 back in Register Rewards.  So free!
  • Paper Mate Mechanical Pencils -- 5-count packs on sale for 29 cents each.  Buy three for 87 cents, then use the $1 off 2 coupon from the 8/17 Smartsource insert (this was regional, so you might have to order it.)  All three will be free!
  • Skittles, Starburst, or Life Savers Gummies -- on sale 2 bags for $2, with 1000 Balance Reward points (like $1 in buying power) back when you buy two in the same transaction.  Use the $1 off 2 coupon from the 6/1 Red Plum insert (this was regional, so you might have to order it.)  You'll pay $1 for both bags out of pocket, and then you'll have your 1000 Balance Rewards.  So both bags are free!
  • Wexford Index Cards -- on sale for 29 cents per pack.
  • Wexford #2 Pencils -- 8-count packs on sale for 39 cents each with in-ad coupon.
  • Penway Crayons -- 24-count packs on sale for 39 cents each with in-ad coupon.
  • Bic Velocity Mechanical Pencils -- 2-count packs on sale for 99 cents each.  Buy two and use the $1 off 2 coupon from the 8/3 Smartsource insert.  Your new price drops to 49 cents apiece.
  • Van Camp's Pork & Beans -- on sale 2 cans for $1 with in-ad coupon.  So that works out to 50 cents per can.
  • Crest Toothpaste -- select varieties on sale 3 for $9, with $5 back in Register Rewards.  Use three 75 cents off coupons from the 7/13 Red Plum insert.  You'll pay $6.75 out of pocket, and then you'll have your $5 back in Register Rewards.  So that's like $1.75 for all three tubes, or just 58 cents each
  • Wexford Filler Paper -- on sale for 69 cents per pack with in-ad coupon.
  • Penway Colored Pencils or Markers -- on sale for 79 cents per pack with in-ad coupon.
  • Purell Hand Sanitizer Wipes -- 15-count packs on sale 3 for $4.  Buy six packs for a total of $8, then use three of this $1 off 2 coupon (requires multiple computers.)  Your price drops to $5 for all six packs, or just 83 cents each.
  • Ajax Dishwashing Liquid -- on sale for 89 cents per bottle with in-ad coupon.
  • Velveeta Cheesy Skillets -- on sale 2 boxes for $4.  Use two $1 off coupons from the 2/23 Smartsource insert (these were regional, so you might have to order it.)  Your price drops to a buck per box.
  • Oscar Mayer Beef Hot Dogs -- on BOGO sale 2 for $2.99.  Use this $1 off 2 coupon (sort by Food to find it fast) and pay $1.99 for both packs.  That works out to $1 per pack!
  • Purex Liquid Laundry Detergent or Ultra Packs -- on sale 2 for $6, with $2 back in Register Rewards.  So that's like paying $4 for 2 bags, or two bucks per bottle or bag.
