Wow, I have some interesting news for Walmart shoppers!
Last week, Walmart began testing their new WalmartInHome delivery service -- where for a flat monthly fee of $19.95, a Walmart associate will bring your groceries to your home and put them away for you. Yes, even if you're not home to observe!
Coupons In The News put together a good overview of the service that you can read about here.
But I can definitely see some pros and cons to this service if it rolls out nationally:
Pros: Would be great for folks who don't drive and/or can't handle physically getting their groceries inside from a more traditional delivery service. For example, my MIL took a bad fall several years back and broke her heel and damaged her shoulder and elbow. This kind of service would have been a lifesaver for her at that point!
Walmart says that no plastic bags or paper bags will be left behind, so there's nothing to dispose of or recycle. They'll also install a smart lock on your front or garage door, so you don't have to leave keys out.
And Walmart is also promising multiple background checks on each InHome associate, plus a live-stream capability so you can watch your deliveries being put away wherever you are!
Cons: $19.95 is the priciest delivery option currently on the market (competitor Shipt, for example, charges an annual $99 fee to bring your groceries to your door.) So Walmart would be charging well over twice that, since $19.95 works out to $239.40 annually.
If you have pets, I can see the uncertainty of how they will respond to a strange person suddenly appearing in your house. This honestly would be my biggest concern -- what happens if my dog freaks out or my cat tries to make a break for it out the front door?
And frankly, some of us have particular places we put things in the fridge or pantry!
What do you think? Is in-home grocery delivery service something you need in your life?
Or will you stick to shopping the old-fashioned way, or using a more traditional delivery service? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
