Walgreens Paperless Coupons Launch: Good Or Bad For Shoppers?

Have you heard that Walgreens has launched a new coupon program?  Now you can add paperless coupons directly to your Balance Rewards card from the Walgreens site!

Here's a quick walk-through on how to use Walgreens paperless coupons:

First things first: you'll need to sign up for a Walgreens.com account if you don't already have one, and link your Balance Rewards account to it.

You can do that by entering either your Balance Rewards card number or your phone number here and following the prompts.

Once that's done, log into your Walgreens.com account, and go to the Weekly Ads & Coupons link at the top of the page, then click on Browse Coupons.

Now you can start 'clipping' coupons and adding them to your Balance Rewards card.

The next time you're at Walgreens, just have the cashier scan your Balance Rewards card, or enter your phone number in at the touchpad payment screen.

Any applicable coupons that match back to items you're purchasing will automatically come off your transaction.

Now, here's the one major drawback to keep in mind about these new paperless coupons at Walgreens: unlike Walgreens coupons available in the monthly coupon books, these paperless coupons can NOT be stacked with manufacturer coupons for extra savings.

So basically, you are limiting yourself to just the single discount once you load a coupon onto your Balance Rewards card.

I don't know if Walgreens ultimately plans to do away with the monthly coupon books and replace that entire program with paperless coupons, but I personally think it's very interesting that this new feature will wind up saving Walgreens more money, not their customers!

What do you think about the new paperless coupons program at Walgreens?  Do you like not having to clip and store paper coupons, or would you rather just keep on stacking coupons the way you've always done?
