If you're one of the 40 million Americans caught up in the recent security breach at Target between Black Friday and mid-December, there's more news you need to know: Yahoo is reporting that PIN numbers could have been compromised, as well as other security information on your credit card or debit card.
Although Target says there's no evidence as yet that PINs have been 'compromised', a senior executive told Yahoo the criminals responsible for the breach did in fact gain access to PIN numbers, along with customer name, credit or debit card number, and the card’s expiration date and CVV (the three-digit security code).
In response to the Target security breach, JP Morgan Chase took the unprecedented step of lowering both daily withdrawal and daily spending limits on nearly 2 million debit cards right before the Christmas holiday.
Target is recommending their customers watch their accounts closely for suspicious transactions, and notify their banks if unauthorized transactions start showing up.
