What Is A Red Plum Or Smartsource Coupon Insert?

One of the most common questions I receive from new couponers who join the San Antonio Budget Grocery Facebook page is "What's a Smartsource insert?"

As you read through deals on the blogs I run, you will very frequently see me refer to Smartsource coupon inserts, Red Plum coupon inserts, or P&G coupon inserts.

Basically, this just refers to the name of the marketing company that releases coupons in the newspaper each week!

Here's a photo so you can see what I'm talking about, with two coupon inserts from the Sunday paper.  These are the two most common inserts, which we receive most weeks.

The insert on the left has 'Smartsource' written across the top, while the one on the right says 'redplum.com'. UPDATE 2018: Red Plum has since been renamed to RetailMeNot!

That's how you can identify which is which!

Less frequently, newspaper readers will receive other inserts, like the P&G insert, which usually comes out once a month.

Some weeks we will even receive full inserts of Target coupons or Box Tops for Education coupons, but those are pretty random, and not something to count on seeing on a regular basis.

BONUS TIP: If you turn the insert on its side, you will see the date the insert was released in very small print on the spine.

That will help you find inserts quickly, since I always refer to them by the name of the insert and the date they were released.
