Walgreens Deceptive Pricing Lawsuits: Chain Settled With Two Other States In 2013

As promised, I'm tracking more information on the deceptive pricing lawsuit the state of Missouri filed against Walgreens this week -- and it turns out that the Show-Me state isn't even the first to have problems with the chain this year!

According to the Associated Press, Walgreens settled two lawsuits with California and Wisconsin already in 2013 over their price discrepancies, to the combined tune of well over a million dollars.
Walgreens paid out $1.4 million in penalties to California back in January, after several counties sued the chain over price issues similar to the ones mentioned in the Missouri lawsuit.  Walgreens also agreed to create a 'price guarantee program' in the state as a result of the settlement terms.

In March, Walgreens paid out $30,000 in Wisconsin following a similar lawsuit around pricing practices and the failure to post refund notices.

Given some of the feedback readers have left on the San Antonio Budget Grocery Facebook page after this story broke, I'm wondering if other states should open up their own investigations into Walgreens' pricing practices as well.

If you live in Texas and have a story about Walgreens sales not ringing up accurately at the register, you can actually fill out a consumer complaint form with the Office of the Attorney General and share your story.  Readers who live in other states can google their state's OAG to find out how to lodge a complaint there.

  1. Found this to be true in Michigan. Is there any information on Michigan possibly filing a lawsuit?

  2. It's more the deceptive marketing. Their new points system Never works correctly. And the restrictions and requirements just to save a little make this the last place I will be doing any of my business from now on.
